A New Book On Law and Literature

Our good friend Jose Calvo Gonzalez tells us of a newly published book on law and literature. Os Modelos de Juiz: Ensaios de Direito e Literatura (André Karam Trindade e Lenio Luiz Streck, eds., Editora Atlas, São Paulo, 2015) is now available. Lots of interesting essays in this volume, including pieces on Tolstoy and Law, theoretical pieces on judging, and pieces on Brecht, Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice. Leo Tolstoy, Ernest H. Crosby, and Shakespeare

Geography of the receipt of the work and thought of Tolstoy, presenting his map in Europe, Asia and USA. Interspersed references to the reception among jurists. Particular care in the U.S. figure of Ernest Howard Crosby and his contribution to the spread of tolstoism, and about his criticism and social reform. Recovery and analysis, in line Law and Literature, of one of the texts of Crosby (Shakespeare's attitude toward the working classes, 1903).

Tolstoy and Spanish Law

José Calvo González has published El alma y la ley. Tolstói entre juristas. España (1890-1928)(Sevilla: Comunicación Social Ediciones y Publicaciones (2010)(Colección Historia y Presente, nº 5). The author is Professor of the theory and philosophy of law at the University of Malaga and Judge at the Tribunal Superior de Justicia of Andalucia.
