Richard H. McAdams, University of Chicago Law School, has published The Cross-Examination of Mayella Ewell at 69 Alabama Law Review 579 (2018). Here is the abstract.
This essay explores one central part of Tom Robinson’s trial in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird: Atticus Finch’s cross-examination of Mayella Ewell. The eight- year-old Scout cannot fully understand the strategy and meaning of Atticus’ questions, but the trial supplies enough clues to understand more of Mayella’s life than is generally understood.Download the article from SSRN at the link.
