At about 500 words, How Watson Learned the Trick (HOWW for short) is puny when compared to Arthur Conan Doyle’s typical Sherlock Holmes and John Watson adventures, which tend to run 7,000 to 10,000 words. But the story of how HOWW came to be written, and how it has been treated since, is probably worthy of longer treatment than many of those typical tales. We will, however, try to keep it short (with some superb new original illustrations of the story itself by Madeline Quiñones).
